Respiratory Infections

Upper respiratory infections, such as colds and the flu can be difficult to avoid during the winter months and are often complicated by lung and sinus problems such as bronchitis and sinusitis repectively. We can look at two aspects of respiratory health 1) Helping support the immune system to fight off an infection and 2) Reducing mucous congestion that is often a consequence.

Immune Support

Echinacea, there are two to choose from:

8557 Echinacea 1000mg (twice the strength of most products)

Lamberts Echinacea is one of the strongest products available. Each tablet contains a standardised extract, equivalent to 1000mg of the dried herb, and provides a guaranteed 4% phenolic compounds. Whilst many echinacea products sold are tincture in form, Lamberts chose a tablet form since herbs in solid extract form such as tablets and capsules typically show greater chemical stability. They also mask the bitter taste of the herb being used.

8578 Echinacea 1000mg and Goldenseal 2000mg (two high potency herbs in one tablet)

Each tablet of our combined high potency Echinacea and Goldenseal formula contains a standardised extract, equivalent to 1000mg of dried echinacea, and provides a guaranteed 4% phenolic compounds like our single echinacea product. Plus it has the advantage of providing a full 100mg extract of goldenseal, equivalent to 2000mg of the whole herb, with a guaranteed 10% alkaloids. To obtain this high level of both herbs other brands would normally require buying the two herbs as seperate products but at Lamberts you get the two herbs in one.

Reducing Mucous Congestion

8520 Bromelain 500mg

Bromelain, an enzyme derived from the stem of fresh pineapples, is probably best known for its use as a digestive aid, especially to assist in the digestion of fatty or high protein meals. And has more recently grown in recognition for helping sports people with sprains and strains. However, one of the other most popular uses for bromelain amongst practitioners is for reducing mucous congestion. To be of use a bromelain product must contain at least 2000 gelatin-disolving units (GDUs) per gramme, which is why it is important to use a high strength product such as ours that contains this relevant level.
