Following this, and his performance in the British Schools Championships, Sirichai Cox has been invited to take part in an event entitled “Britain’s Most Powerful Youth” on 8th November 2008 at Crystal Palace. This is a 4 event competition comprising Clean & Jerk, Overhead Shot Putt, Triple Broad Jump and 40 Metre Sprint.
It is hoped that there will be TV coverage of this event as the adult section should include David Morgan-World Masters Weightlifting Champion, a British Lion and two of the Gladiators. I thought I might have a go, but when they gave me the Gladiator name of Gerbil, I started to suspect that they were not taking me all that seriously.

Sirichai amongst the Silverware.
The William de Ferrers School’s Olympic Weightlifting club scored another notable first when Sirichai Cox attended the British Schools Championships in Birmingham on 8th March 2008. This prestigious event can only be entered when a competitor has achieved a challenging qualifying total, thereby ensuring that only the top lifters in Great Britain participate.
Before a large and knowledgeable audience, Sirichai made a nervous start, and dropped his first Snatch. He recovered well and by the end of the Snatch phase, he was in third place, just 2kg behind the second place competitor.
In the Clean and Jerk element, Sirichai turned on the style and posted a personal best Clean and Jerk that was above his own bodyweight. This gave him a total of 92kg- equal to that of his nearest opponent. In that situation the lighter competitor takes the place and so Sirichai was awarded second place overall.
This was a fantastic achievement for a novice competitor who has only been training for a couple of months.
Sirichai, his family and I would like to thank and acknowledge the generous financial sponsorship of the William de Ferrers School and the East Midlands Weightlifters Association.
Mr. S. Braxton.

27th October 2007
After an
absence of some years, East Midlands Olympic Weightlifters finally returned to a domestic
Championship event when three of our guys took part in the Greater London Open on 27th
October at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace.
In the under
85kg category, Gavin Jones from the Cambridge University Club took 5th place in
his first ever competition and David Mowat from William de Ferrers School took 5th
place in the under 105 kg category.
Also in the
under 105 kg category, Stephen Martin from Cambridge University took 3rd place,
losing second only on bodyweight and just 3kg away from winning the title.
My
congratulations to all and my thanks for putting the Division back on the OW map. I really
hope that this is the start of a revival in the Division and I would like to remind anyone
interested in Olympic Lifting to contact me via the E.M. Division website at Hamiltons
Fitness.
