| Bodyweight and Age Categories There are 11 bodyweight categories for men and 10 for women
Sub-Junior : from the day he/she reaches 14 years and throughout the full calendar year in which he/she reaches 18 years. Junior : from 1 January in the calendar year he/she reaches 19 years and throughout the full calendar year in which he/she reaches 23 years. Open : from the day he/she reaches 14 years and upwards (no category restrictions need apply ). Master 1 : from 1 January in the calendar year he/she reaches 40 years and throughout the full calendar year in which he/she reaches 49 years. Master 2: from 1 January in the calendar year he/she reaches 50 years and throughout the full calendar year in which he/she reaches 59 years. Master 3: from 1 January in the calendar year he/she reaches 60 years and throughout thefull calendar year in which he/she reaches 69 years. Master 4: from 1 January in the calendar year he/she reaches 70 years and upwards. So, for example, if you are under 23 it is possible to chose to lift either as a junior or in the open class of a competition. The same for over 40 year olds who could lift either as a Master 1 or in the open class, but not both. If you are lifting in an age restricted category or if you are hoping to qualify for an age restricted class at a British Championship then you will have to bring along a copy of your birth certificate to the competion. |
