I
have worked as fitness instructor since 2003 and am now
a fully qualified as a personal trainer with a CYQ Level
3 Certificate in Personal Training. I am also a long
term sport and activity enthusiast.
I have always been interested in sport and activity,
from netball, rounders, dance and athletics at school,
to rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking and surfing
as I got older. Previously I was junior British Champion
powerlifter with 12 British records to my name so I know
first hand how to maximise training for strength. I have
trained for and competed in sprint distance triathlons
which has given me a good firsthand understanding of
training for endurance goals as well. I have also taken
part in a variety of activities for fitness and fun
too. I am always keen to try new sports so if you would
like someone to help you with starting that new activity
you’ve been wanting to do I’d love to help!
After studying physical education and psychology at A
level I decided to pursue my interest in people at
degree level. I achieved a first class BSc honours in
sociology and psychology from Plymouth University and an
MSc in social research from Oxford University. During my
studies I developed a keen interest for the sociology
and psychology of sport and exercise. I have come to
see that there are many social and psychological
barriers people experience when trying to achieve their
health or sporting goals which they are often unaware
of. On completing my masters I decided to combine my
interest in people with my interest in sport and
exercise and realised personal training was the perfect
way to do this: working with real people sharing my
expertise and experience. And so Practical Personal
Training was born!
I
intend to continue my professional development by
pursuing courses in GP referral and sports conditioning
to ensure I keep my knowledge as fresh and up to date as
possible.
